Dr. Oz: ‘Insanity’ Creator Shaun T.
I’m a big fan of Dr. Oz and his insightful, always eye-opening television show. Last week Dr. Oz welcomed ‘Insanity’ and ‘Rockin’ Body’ creator Shaun T. Within the first few minutes of watching I was almost in tears listening to a few women talk about their bodies and how they longed to be the size they were earlier in life.
Soon, Dr. Oz had each audience member hold up an outfit that basically symbolized the last time they felt good or comfortable with their body and what they would love to be able to wear again. I saw pantsuits, lingerie, jeans and tops but the one that really got me thinking was the woman holding up her wedding dress.

After talking to the woman with the wedding dress, he then began talking to the woman down on the lower right holding up the pretty black dress:
Dr. Oz: “When you look in the mirror, what do you see?”
Guest: “I see someone that used to feel like a star, that now is just like, a mom that works, a wife, that doesn’t have the time to do the things I’d like to do and look the way that I’d like to look.”
This is the part where I began to tear up because it’s something I could really relate to. I’m not your typical “full-time working mom”, but I can relate to having children, trying to get your body back and feeling like you just don’t have the time to do it. I really felt for her and my first thought to myself was, “You can do it!. It’s never too late, you’re never too old and there’s always enough time!”
Dr. Oz on what his wife has to say about Shaun T.: “My wife brags about you all the time. We’ve got Shaun T tapes all over the darn house!”

When Dr. Oz asked, “So why does your plan work while others fail?” Here’s what Shaun T. had to say:
I combine nutrition and I combine the exercise together. There’s no such thing as a diet to me, because you can go on a diet which means you can go off a diet. Everything is a lifestyle change. And that is a quote that you need to put on your refrigerator. Everything is a lifestyle change.
Even though Shaun T. is the mastermind behind the Insanity program, I loved that he took the time to speak a bit about food and how important food is for anybody trying to lose weight or just get into better shape. Ever heard the phrase “you can’t out-exercise a poor diet?” It’s true.
3 Rules to Get Your Best Body Back (Dr. Oz video)

Rule #1: Taper your carbs throughout the day.
I’ve read this numerous times and have even written about it here on my blog. This rule makes sense and here’s why: carbohydrates give your body the energy it needs to function properly. It would make sense to consume the highest amount of carbs in the morning for breakfast and then taper them again at lunch and then taper a little more for dinner.
If you feed your body a bunch of carbs right before bed, your body isn’t going to need all that energy just to sleep! Consuming high amounts of carbohydrates before bed can have a great impact on your ability to lose weight and can even lead to weight gain.

Shaun T.’s 15-minute Dr. Oz-approved workout (video)
Is it a gimmick? Heck no.
Is it for everyone? Definitely not.
What’s so great about it? You don’t need equipment. You use your body weight. The workouts are based on HIIT (high intensity interval training) which I’m a huge fan of. HIIT keeps your body burning calories hours after you finish the actual workout. It’s powerful stuff.
Is it for me? I honestly can’t answer that for you. I believe that when it comes to workouts, just about any type of workout is going to have a positive effect so long as you’re working out and eating right consistently. *Your job is to find the type(s) of activities you enjoy most and find workouts that incorporate those things. That is what will help you stay involved and motivated while also preventing boredom.
But it’s a home fitness program on DVD. Won’t it just end up sitting on a shelf somewhere collecting dust? Well, maybe. But if that happens, that’s your own fault. You either got lazy or you chose an activity you don’t actually enjoy doing. You can’t buy a fitness program on DVD and get in shape by not ever pushing play. Anything worth doing or having requires effort.
If you want something bad enough, you’ll go out of your way to make it happen.
